The Milano Ladies Auxiliary will be having their annual Spring Garage Sale May 6-8 at Milano Fire Station. The sale will be held 8AM-5PM May 6th and 7th and 8AM-Noon on May 8th.
The Lee Lockwood Library and Museum, along with Douglass Subaru, presents A Night With Holly Tucker benefit concert on May 8th at 7PM at the Lee Lockwood Library and Museum in Waco. The KCD Band out of Cameron will open the concert. Doors open at 5:30PM and concessions and a cash bar will be open. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. VIP tickets are $25. The Carolina Lodge #330 in Lott will host a pulled pork fundraiser at 11AM May 8th at the Lodge in Lott. Pulled pork sandwich meals with onions, pickles, chips, and a drink are $8. This is a drive through event and runs until sold out.
The 2020-21 Rockdale High School Athletic Banquet will be 6:30PM Tuesday, May 11th, at Tiger Stadium. Tickets are $8 for guests and includes a catered meal. You must RSVP no later than May 3rd. Tickets will be waiting at the home entrance to the stadium. Pay when you arrive. The venue will change in case of inclement weather.
The Knights of Columbus is sponsoring a vet clinic at the Westphalia Hall Pavilion, State Highway 320, Westphalia on Saturday May 23rd. The clinic will be from 8 am to 11 am. Dogs, cats and other small animals can be vaccinated for rabies, parvovirus and any other ailment they may have at a nominal cost. The vet services will be provided by Dr. Jared Ranly, DVM. Memorial Day services will be 10AM Monday, May 31st, at the Memorial at the Milam County Courthouse. Ben Milam VFW Post 2010 is hosting the event. The Yoe High band is expected to play during the event. Masks are not required but the public is encouraged to wear one and social distance. All Milam County residents are invited. KMIL will broadcast the event live.
There will be a Crawfish & Shrimp Boil from 2PM until sold out June 6th at the American Legion Carlyle Post #358 in Rockdale. Plates are $15 and include crawfish, shrimp, potatoes, and corn. All plates are take-out or available dine-in on the outdoor picnic tables. Veggie plates are $7 and drinks will be $1 each. A D-Day Turkey Shoot will be held at Noon June 6th at the American Legion Carlyle Post 358 in Rockdale. Proceeds will benefit Charles Starr. Ammo will be provided and shotguns must be 12-gauge with a max barrel length of 32" including the choke. No super or full chokes will be allowed. Cost is $5 per round with 10 shooters per round. The winner of each round gets half the take per round. There will also be a stretch pull for a Yildez single-shot 410 shotgun. Ticket pulls are $20 per pull. The 20th Annual MARC RUN brought to you by The Bad To The Bone Riders of Rockdale will take place June 12th at The Ranch in Rockdale. This annual ride benefits The M.A.R.C. (Milam Adult Resource Center) of Milam County, which serves all Milam County Adult Residents with Physical and Learning Disabilities. Registration starts at 9AM, with first bike out at 11AM and last bike in at 4PM. The ride fee is $20 per rider or $25 with a passenger. The fee includes a BBQ meal. The Edwin Hardy Post 9 of the American Legion in Cameron will host a Fish Fry on Fathers Day, June 20th, from 11AM-2PM. Plates are $10 each and will be available at the Legion Hut at Ledbetter Park.
If you are in grades 3-12 and would like to learn about all the exciting opportunities that are offered in 4-H Shooting Sports there is a group right here in Milam County that can help. There are nine disciplines that students can participate in: air pistol, air rifle, smallbore pistol, smallbore rifle, compound archery, recurve archery, shotgun, muzzleloading and hunting and wildlife. In the Milam County club we practice air pistol and air rifle along with compound and recurve archery in Rockdale at the New Salem Bldg on the fair grounds. Students who participate learn many valuable skills that will serve them well in many facets of life. Gun safety is first and foremost but skills like patience, discipline, communication and problem solving are always part of shooting sports. These are skills that will benefit people throughout their lives. Come join the fun!

Cameron Police Department has now started the year round Explorer program. This program is a career oriented learning for life and geared to help encourage interest in all career paths. This program helps students learn the life of a law enforcement officer, life saving techniques, and developmental skills. This program is open to anyone ages 14-20, no arrest history, good moral character, positive references, and must be able to attend meetings and trainings. Rosebud Senior Center is open from 9AM to Noon, Monday-Friday. We have games (Bingo, Dominoes, Cards, etc.) each day. Box meals are served with a one-day notice. The Milam Regional Farmers Market will be held the 2nd and 4th Saturdays in March through November from 9am to 1pm at The Yards of Cameron. The Cameron Volunteer Fire Department is now accepting applications for membership in the department. No prior fire service qualifications are needed. Applicants must be 18 years of age, no criminal history, have a drivers license, a vehicle to respond with, live within a few miles of Cameron, and most of all be able to repond to fires and attend meetings and drills each Monday.
